Goodbyes and Hellos

This month has been such a flurry of activity with both joyous and sad news…

Friday evening, my favourite Italian Zio (Uncle Aldo, aka, Coco’s babysitter), died of cancer. He was 76 years young. Zio was awesome and I’m happy that he didn’t suffer too long with this horrible disease. He became housebound several months ago because diabetes took his eyesight. He was not a man to stay home so when I learned that he also had cancer a month ago, I knew it was probably for the best. How does someone who was always so active suddenly adjust to being blind at 76?

I went to see him, gave him lots of hugs and kisses and a tuft of Coco’s fur too. His last meal was roasted lamb with Prosecco, this is how I want to leave this world too! There will be no funeral, memorial or anything. He didn’t want it. If I know Zio, he probably has front row seats at a Bowie concert right now.

On to other news, Italy is at it again. After the big environmental summit in Paris, the Italian government has returned with a mandate to reduce pollution. While I think this is great, their tactics are less than desireable and already the protests have begun. Instead of expanding the metro, or improving public transit, they have zeroed in on older cars and worse, scooters! The homeland of the Vespa, and the highest number in all of Italy, the Genovese are pretty ticked off about the new law which will ban anything older than 1999 in the centre of the city. The centre, where parking is almost non-existent! Do they really think that this will solve the pollution problem here? I don’t know all the facts…so if you have a better idea, well, I for one would love to hear it.

And on the heels of that news, what did I go and do? I got a vintage, 1975, FIAT 500, (Cinquecento) for my birthday! Yep, that’s right, call me crazy. Look, I care about the environment, I really do, but have you seen how cute these cars are??? I have always loved old cars and have wanted a 500 for two years now. And believe me, I researched this topic a lot! My husband either A) got tired of my nagging for one, and pointing them out on every road, or B) he really loves me and wants me to be happy 🙂 I opt for B! And it is soooo sweet! Beep! Beep! All it needs now is a portapacchi, that’s one of those luggage racks that you can attach on the back since the trunk space is pretty much non-existent.

And Wednesday, I’m flying to Paris! See, the month isn’t even over yet and it has been chock full of events. Maybe I will find a really cute French vintage suitcase to put on the portapacchi rack 😉 Oh, and then there’s champagne to drink too! Can’t wait!

Did I mention that I turn 50 this Friday? I kinda like this round number, lol. I already have a night of French Jazz set up in some hip bar too…what more could a gal want?

Last year was a tough one, menopause really kicked me in the butt but I got through it with the love and support from family and friends. So glad to be back on the brighter side of the trail again. Hugs to all xox

From one woman getting her ass kicked to another, thanks for your honest sharing, it helps to know the sisters are all suffering at times.
