Life’s full of Surprises

20130722-142623.jpg

These last few mornings I have been desperately trying to sleep past 7 a.m. so that I can catch up on some sleep. I love the early mornings because it isn’t quite as stifling hot yet and you can get a lot done. Clearing out all those dusty books last week gave me a nasty cough that is finally starting to clear up.

Surprise #1.
This morning I managed to stay in bed until 8, but I was greeted by a barfed up hairball on the floor. At least I hadn’t stepped in it, in my dazed morning stupor. I decided today was going to be the day that I tackle some painting projects way up on the hill near the chicken coop. No, we don’t have any chickens, but at one point in time we did as well as a pet goat. But we’ve got plenty of lizards, which you can see Coco has found as she is desperately trying to get at one through the screened window.

Surprise #2.
On my way down the well trodden path I was greeted by a very large, very stinky, pile of wild boar poop! Hmmm, is this going to be one of those days? Again, grateful that I at least hadn’t stepped in it, I now had to go find a shovel and remove the offending pile from my pathway. I dumped the heap into the composter, heehee.

Surprise #3.
So, as I started to get organized for the long hike up the hill, I realized that I needed to find the new can of paint because the one I had was almost finished. I searched and searched and got frustrated with the disorganized mess that my sister-in-law created in the storage house. I dropped my plans and went to task re-organizing everything. An hour later I found the can of paint I was searching for and a whole bunch of other useful stuff that had been shoved in cabinets. Can I ask, why does a person need thirty empty glass jars?

Okay, armed and ready, I headed up the hill, six terraces above the house. I managed to get some painting done but now the sun was directly over me and the sweat was dripping off me in puddles. I managed to do the job and will have to go back in a few days for the underside but I’m happy with the results. But take a look at this photo…My arm brushed up against some tall blades of grass and I immediately got itchy!

Surprise #4.
Okay, this one doesn’t suck, look at how beautiful these antique bellows’ are! I have always loved these because my real last name is Bellows! (It’s complicated…for another blog post one day).

It’s now 3 p.m. and there’s a heap of old jars and empty paint cans waiting to be carried down to the garbage bins, but this involves yet another walk on another hill. Did someone say ‘Siesta’?

  1. I just woke from mine. 🙂

It is very hot at the moment isn’t it. There is a mosquito in our bedroom that wakes me up around 2.00am.

Pecora (bitten all over the place) Nera

    • Hi Pec!
I stick SenZzza baby citronella patches on my pillow 🙂
You can find them at Coop…they seem to do the trick. You stick them like a bandaid anywhere you tend to get bitten. I buy the baby ones cuz they are not as strong and are all natural.
Do you think it could be the same mosquito every night at 2? Cuz I think he comes to my house at 5, hahaha

      • Pecora Nera says:

Can you get full body patches? On Saturday night I was bit right between the shoulder blades, I couldn’t reach it to put some cream on it. Last night i was bit on my bum.. not that is just not called for.

Some bites just itch, but there is a mosquito or something that bites and it stings like a bee sting and I get a red welt, not a round bump, so doctor what do you think?

      • Oh wow, are you my brother from another mother?
As for bites on yer bum, well, that does seem quite unjust, maybe you should sit more frequently, lol. But the baby patches know no boundaries…
As for the other bites, could most likely be spider bites or bed bugs (they are common here) I know, eeeeew! But I had the same problem last summer, every time I woke up I had weird bites on my hands and my hands are usually tucked under my pillow. I put baking soda powder on the mattress and vacuumed the bed. that seemed to do the trick.
The mattress was really old so eventually we bought a new mattress and new pillows too and now I have no problem.
Try the soda first…cheaper solution. And buy some Fargan cream at the chemist, takes away the itch and sting and swelling. 🙂 may the force be with you! P. Lea

Mrs Sensible said it might be pappataci that bite and leave a red welt.

I don’t think it is bed bugs cause they don’t bite Mrs Sensible and it is a newish mattress that gets hoovered.. I went for a beer with a friend and came back looking like spotty from the Super Ted Cartoons.

      • Never heard of pappataci!
Are you sure you didn’t just get drunk and fall into a bush on your way home? Hehe

      • Pecora Nera says:

        now now, enough.
        🙂
