Oh! Canada

So I ditched my husband for the holidays and came to Canada…the first night we got 15cm of snow and I was so happy! Coming back home is always a treat and I double up on all the goodies I cannot find in Italy. I’ve eaten enough english muffins to stock a bakery!

Every house I have visited of family and friends has been over run with dogs and cats and I love the unconditional cuddles I get at 7:00 a.m. My sister told me the new cat will keep me up all night wanting to play…Perfect! It will be just like sleeping with Coco. And true to form, he decided my ear would make a tasty snack at 5:00 a.m.

My suitcase is loaded down with Christmas and birthday presents and maple fudge, syrup and cookies for my husband. I have been spoiled rotten with pedicures and massages thanks to my sister and I got the warmest winter socks you can imagine from my big brother. The socks came in handy while I was walking around Blue Mountain Ski resort village in -5C temperatures. But here’s the weird thing…I am always colder in Genoa! Everyone thinks Canada is a really cold country, and it is, but the cold is dry and I just don’t feel it the way the Genoa wind gets into my bones and stays there until April. In fact, everyone here walks around in t-shirts in the house.

I’ve realized that I miss that goofy Canadian humour and saying eh and winter! Who knew?
Maybe one day I can get my husband off the ship for the holidays and convince him winter in Canada is a magical time of the year if you have the right socks 😉

Happy New Year everyone!
Buon 2013
