1″ of snow and everything stops!

Not a wink of sleep last night as the window shutters violently shook against the wind and snow. I had a 4 a.m. Alarm set for my trip to the Genoa airport and after arriving here safely I am secured in my seat…at the airport. My plane seems to be nowhere in sight and quite delayed.

Every time I embark on my Christmas travels I ask myself why? Why do I insist on spending endless hours at cold European airports during the holiday season? When I peered out my apartment window this morning it was still dark and cold and windy. Oh, how inviting my bed looked to me instead of my heavy suitcase.

To add to my stress I was on hold with the taxi company for twenty minutes wondering if I should make an emergency call to someone else to get to the airport on time! Should I just jump into the Magic Panda and drive there myself? Where would I leave the car? Are the roads clear? Then a little voice in my head said “Keep Calm and Carry-on”. What a great slogan!

Of course in true Italian fashion there have been no announcements or explanations regarding my flight either. I shouldn’t dare leave my gate because with my luck that is when the boarding will take place.

By the way. There is merely a few centimeters of snow on the ground. Maybe this is prepwork to prepare me for my visit to Canada. I’ve probably gotten a bit soft over the years haha.

Genoa-Munich-Charlotte-Charleston, I think this is going to be a long day…
