Return of the soccer babes

After a very lazy summer and an additional 8 or 9 kilos added to my waistline, my soccer team, Mamme Praese, are back on track and kicking up some serious turf. Admittedly, it takes a bit to get me motivated to jump in my car and drive all the way to the other side of the city just to kick a soccer ball around in the cold, windy Genoa air. But, once I get on the field I’m as happy as a clam.

The conversation goes at rapid fire speed and I struggle to keep up but these gals rock! We have a diverse group of moms and our skill level is just as varied but one thing I have noticed is that things are finally starting to come together for us. Last night’s practice was the first time I noticed how much we have improved since we started this gig last Spring. And now that we are getting a bit better the game is much more fun! I even hit the ball with my head! And yes, it was exhilarating because although it didn’t tickle, I must have done it right because my teammate cheered me on.

Of course the real test will be next week when we play a tournament and three games in one week. Now if I can just get my friend and fellow teammate Linda to double tie her shoelaces and glue them together we are all set. How can a persons shoe laces become undone four times in one hour?

Oh, and by the way, we don’t play “calcio” we play “calcetto”, which still translates into the word soccer but I’m told that our version is like a mini-me version of the game. Cute.
