A few weeks ago Mama asked if it was okay to have a special lunch for my husband on his last day of vacation. Of course she left it up to me and said that it was perfectly okay with her if I chose to decline and opt for spending time alone with him, but come on people, have you ever tried saying no to an Italian mother-in-law?
While we were there she stuffed us to the gills with polenta and sausage (and I wonder why none of my jeans fit!). Usually I find it quite difficult to follow the dinner conversation, in particular because this family loves to talk over one another and it is impossible to follow the thread. Sunday was no exception except that I couldn’t help but notice that Mama had moved the computer into her bedroom.
Mama is a TV addict and a social misfit all rolled into a fiery 68 year old package of dynamite. In the last few months she has gotten an email address and has started to correspond with an old pal who now lives in New York. She even asked me to help her figure out a link that was sent to her. I wondered with mild amusement where this was all going…
You can just imagine my ears perking up when Mama said she had a Twitter account! I don’t even have a Twitter account. I mean honestly, where does it end? I’ve got gmail, hotmail, Facebook, Myspace, Pinterest, WordPress and LinkedIn! Do I really need Twitter now too?
I carefully asked Mama…what do you do on Twitter? She said “Obama”. She is a big fan of his and she wants more input outside of the crap TV she gets on the local Italian stations. I asked her how she could possible follow anything “Obama” if she cannot understand English and she replied, Google translate! Oh Lord, help us all!
If she figures out how to use Facebook I’m outta here…
And another thing: lets just hope she stops at Twitter and doesn’t start reading blogs too 🙂
