The other day I decided to drop in on Mama. I haven’t seen her in a while and I usually bring food when I visit. This time I brought her some spinach Quiche. Now as most of my readers already know, I am no gourmet but I can bake some pretty fine cookies and cakes. What can I say? Dessert has always been a top priority for me. My Motto: ‘Life’s short, eat dessert first”
As soon as I stepped into Mama’s room her eyes lit up at the sight of tinfoil and a plate in my hand…’dolce?’ she asked, “um no. It’s a spinach pie.” ‘Oh.’ She ignored the plate for about three minutes…as I sat there thinking ‘wait a minute lady, you always yell at me when I bring you cookies because they make you fat!’
Three minutes passed and she slowly opened the tinfoil. She tore a piece of pie with her hands and stuffed it into her mouth. ‘Mmmmm, che buono.’ I asked, “would you like a fork?” ‘No, grazie.’ Then she proceeded to eat the entire piece (there was 1/3 of a pie on that plate). Well, I guess she likes spinach pie too…”would you like some water to wash that down with?”
Tomorrow I have to bring Coco over to Mama’s for vacation time. Although Trenitalia is threatening a train strike on exactly the days I will be travelling by train, I already have my ticket and plan to get to Tuscany one way or another. Even if it means hitchhiking!
I am currently baking cookies. They’re for Mama of course and Zio Aldo, who will be picking up Coco the next day. He’s her ‘official guardian’ (Mama has lost Coco on occasion only to call me in a panic, “Liaaa, I can’t find Coco” and after my initial heart attack I get a second call, “the little bastard was hiding on me!” Really? Can’t imagine why…).
Anyway, Zio loves my cat and my cookies and I may even pack a few for the train ride just in case I find myself on the side of a road maybe I can bribe someone for a ride 🙂 Mmmm, damn these are good!
