Pour me some sympathy

If you were to come to my house right now you would find an assortment of wine corks under the couch, under the bed and maybe even in the bathroom. So let me clarify a few things before you visit…yes, I love Prosecco, and Vermentino, and well I could go on for a few pages about this topic, but I think you get the idea.

In fact, I even discovered these mini-bottles of Prosecco and I’m quite tickled about them. But back to the corks…they’re for Coco. She loves playing with them! So every time I get a bit tipsy she gets to have some fun too. A win-win situation for all 🙂

But my winning streak abruptly ends there. Not only have I come to the conclusion that I am lousy at mosaic art, but also at soccer and Italian. You already saw my mosaics so I don’t think I need to elaborate much on that topic and as for my Italian studies…I am lazy and after 4.5 years here I can only do the basics like order wine in a restaurant (clearly this was a top priority).

Soccer is a whole other matter and I am not sure if it’s me, or the circumstances or just simply me 😦. Does that make any sense? (I had half a mini-bottle of Prosecco for lunch)

This is only part of the team…there are 18 of us altogether.

Last night I had a game. I was excited to play and really wanted to win. But it seems like the odds are always against me. The tournament I played a few weeks ago was great and even though we came in second of three teams I felt that it was a fair tournament. Last night we played against a team much younger than us…if I had to guess no player was over 25 years old. Did I mention I play on a Mom team and that the average age is 37? I am of course in the Grandma category with this lot too but I can keep my paces with them.

To put it mildly we got slaughtered, 3-0. How deflating. I think in total I was on the field 6 minutes and during that time they scored 2 goals. Not good considering I was on defense. First I had to wait a good 15 minutes to get called up to join the game. Then the coach decided to place me forward, I never play forward! What to hell am I supposed to do? I was in this position for maybe 3 minutes when they called half time or whatever it is they call between periods (I know this is a hockey reference work with me here people! Enrico, what the hell are the breaks called in English?)

When the coach put me back in on defense (which is my usual position) I was maybe on the field 4 minutes and they scored twice and then I got called to the bench! Shit, how am I supposed to get any momentum going if I am only out there for 4 minutes?

We played 5 on the field and there were 10 of us. I understand everyone should get field time but it really wasn’t fun. Is it me? Is this how the game should be played? Albeit, we were at a clear disadvantage with the age difference and experience level and these girls had enough tattoos on them to start their own comic strip, but surely we could have stood a chance of scoring one goal if we had better coaching, no?

Okay all you soccer nuts, let me here it. Are we just a bunch of whiny, over the hill divas or is there just cause for our losing asses? I want to play but I also want to win!

I think I will go finish my mini-bottle of Prosecco to feel better.

Hmmm. You lost me at half-bottles of Prosecco. That would be awesome! Dump the soccer and stick to the Prosecco. Kitty needs more corks.

Yeah, the half bottles are awesome! I usually drink half-1 glass, then put a spoon in it to keep it fresh and then finish off the bottle later in the day or next and it is still good.

Such a cool idea! I see those mini proseccos and wine bottles all the time and never thought of buying them. Only for beers and those can only be found as far as I know in Japan. I use to buy them by the loads. Mini beer cans, just the right dosage for the day. I should go get some for myself since I am the only one drinking. 🙂
