I’ve often missed the pretty white scene of snow since leaving Canada so many years ago. Don’t get me wrong, I hate the cold weather, but there is something magical about snow. It muffles sounds and gives and illusion of a mystical place when everything turns white.
But here’s the thing. I think my Italian in-laws forget that I am Canadian. Last night my phone rang…it was Mama of course. “Leah, come stai?” “Don’t go outside it’s snowing out and there’s ice”…Really? I hadn’t noticed. Me: “Don’t worry Mama, I’m safe at home with Coco and have cancelled my drag racing plans down Via XX Settembre”
Thirty minutes later my sister-in-law calls. “Dove sei?” Me: “At home with Coco…where are you?” “Oh, I am driving home now, this snow is dangerous (which is why she is driving and talking to me on the phone at the same time), you shouldn’t go out in it if you don’t have to”…me, stifling a giggle, “sure thing, because tomorrow the schools are closed and it is declared a snow day, I mean after all there must be at least an inch or two of the stuff on the ground by now eh?”
So, a free day to stay in my pajama’s until noon or later… Woohoo! Maybe I will even venture out and make snow angels before it all melts. By the way, Coco likes snow too. She went out on the balcony this morning and started to eat it. I had to chase her back into the house in my bathrobe and slippers…I LOVE SNOW DAYS 🙂
I love it !!!!!
