In my mind I’ve written a dozen or so posts but none of them have made it past my imagination. The truth is, I believe everyone has a different style of writing and well mine is a bit spontaneous. Seldom do I let things germinate for long inside my head because frankly if I dwell too long I get bored. What can I say? I have the attention span of a gnat and I’m now asking myself what the heck is a gnat anyways? See what I mean?
This post will hopefully make it onto my blog for a couple of reasons…1. I should be in a cyber café tomorrow to actually “post” it and 2. Surely my attention span can hold out for at least twenty-four hours! You see, on board the ship my husband has free Internet but his company has blocked all the fun sites like Youtube, Facebook and MY BLOG on WordPress! Grrrrr.
For the first couple weeks I was liberated by the fact that I could live my life outside of my computer screen and smell the fresh air around me but now almost three weeks have passed and I’ll admit I’m feeling a wee bit disconnected from my world beyond this floating hotel. Admittedly, the honeymoon phase has passed and I’m starting to feel the strict confinement of our cabin walls.
The fact is I now ask myself why only a few short months ago I was actually seriously considering working on ships again. Now all I can say is “what the heck was I thinking?” There I said it. I just needed a quick fix to realize that the real world is where I’d rather be (don’t ask me this question however when it’s been raining for days and days in Italy and I have yet another road rage moment with an Italian driver).
But, while I’m in the moment, let me share some tidbits of life at sea. Occasionally we get birds that are a bit lost. They fly onboard for a snack and before you know it they find themselves as stowaways on deck. Luckily the seagulls seem to be smart enough not to make this mistake but the little birds, you know the cute ones we actually like, don’t seem to be so wise. Either that or they’re wittingly hitching a free ride to the Bahamas, in which case I am grossly underestimating the little fellas!
Yesterday afternoon I was sitting on the back deck while we were at sea and on our way to Freeport. I had my knees up and was resting a book on my thighs (yes, I know, shockingly, I was studying for the Italian driver’s exam) when a tiny yellow bird landed on my knee! As I looked up to see what it was she hopped to the other knee and then quickly flew away. I sat there for a moment in complete awe. I mean what are the odds of this happening? I know they say its good luck when a bird craps on you but what about when they land on you? What does that mean I wonder? Anyways, that was a special moment that I won’t soon forget.
As you can imagine, I am now sitting comfortably in the Nassau Starbuck’s café and am pumped up on caffeine after drinking a ridiculous sized cup of tea…more like a bucket if you ask me. It’s grey and windy here which brings me to my next post about hurricanes…give me an open Internet connection and jumbo cup of tea and I can sit here all day! Frightening really but I suspect that today will be one of those days when the posts will just keep coming and coming. Sorry, but three weeks away and well we’ve got some catching up to do right? See dad, your cheap daughter has finally forked over $3.00 to blog, are you happy now?
