Mystery socks

I used to think that the dryer always ate one of my socks out of a pair but now the mystery has extended to Italy sans a dryer. You see most (probably 90%) of Italians don’t use clothes dryers. Not sure why that is except that electricity is very expensive and the climate here is mild enough to hang clothes outside so why not?

All that aside, for some reason I am still less one sock from a pair almost every time Mama does the laundry! How can this be? Does the wind mysteriously whisk away only one sock from our clothes line on the balcony? Luckily I will be back in the US for Christmas and it’s not too late to add socks to my Santa Claus ‘wish list’.
