Olive Oil in a Nutshell

Although we decided not to pick our own olives this year I realized that last year at this time I did not have this blog. (I chronicled the entire week’s events with photos and stories and emailed them to family and friends.)

Now that the season is here again I am feeling a bit nostalgic and although I will not chronicle the entire event here in this blog, I will share a few of last year’s moments for you in this blogspace. For starters, I’ve decided to create a few new banners on my home page featuring some photos I took of this adventure. You will see a wild boar watching us in the field, the car packed to the roof with olive bags and our oil pouring out of the mill just to mention a few…so stay tuned!

In a nutshell, we only had time to pick half the field because my husband’s vacation time was finished. But after 4 or 5 days of back-breaking labour (it was just the 2 of us), we managed to haul in 1,000 pounds of olives. Yes, you read that correct! The car was loaded up with 1,000 pounds of olives and we yielded 83 litres of oil. Enjoy the photos and by all means next year come and help!
