Rosie goes to Portofino

Leah and RosieThe day started off innocently enough. My friend and I were returning to Portofino after a beach day and ferry ride from San Frutuoso. The sea was cold but so was the Vermentino and so of course we opted for the wine.

Needless to say, we were quite a happy pair skipping back down the road taking silly photos when sweet Arizona Rosie appeared out of nowhere. She was alone sporting a fancy camera and map with an expression of intent. She wanted to know where the famous Splendido Hotel was.

My friend and I are Canadian, so of course we didn’t just point her in the right direction we insisted on taking her there too. We marched up the trail together and bonded immediately with our new-found friend. We insisted that she come home for dinner and we gladly kidnapped her and took her up to the house in the hills.

Not expecting to kidnap an American tourist we improvised with what we had and together we cooked leftover pasta, ate pickled olives and drank all the wine. Poor Rosie was stuffed and pickled by the time we piled back into the car to race to the train station on time.

And, with a final thumbs up that she was on the “right train” we waved goodbye with promises to do it again one day. Maybe next time in Arizona!
